| Jaipur the capital city of the northern Indian state of Rajasthan is one of
the most vibrant and colorful cities of India. Famous for its colorful
culture, forts, palaces, and lakes the city basks in the glory of a rich and

| Jaipur, (City of Victory) was founded in 1727 by Maharaja Jai Singh II, a
Kachhwaha Rajput, who ruled from 1699-1744. Being a brainchild of the
maharaja, he took special interest in the designing planning and execution
works of Jaipur. The city has been divided into nine blocks of which two are
kept for the City Palace Complex and other state buildings, whereas the
other seven blocks were earmarked for the public. The city was encircled by
the city wall, which opened at seven gates or darwazas. In 1728 maharaja jai
Singh II built the remarkable observatory, which is still one of Jaipur's

Amber Fort built in 16th century by Maharaja Man Singh, it
sprawls on the hillside. Its construction was started by Raja Man
Singh but completed by his descendant Jai Singh. Amber is the
classic romantic Rajasthan fort palace. Amber today is nothing but a
reflection of the glorious past of the fierce Kachwaha Dynasty that
ruled over this region from 12th to 18th century.
City Palace known as core of the Rajasthan, which is situated in
the heart of the city. The Palace was conceived and built by Jai
Singh, but many of the apartments and halls were add by his
successors. The Palace is now converted in a museum except for a one
section where the erstwhile royal family still lives. The palace is
now a fine museum and houses a remarkable collection of textiles ,
paintings, manuscripts, and extraordinary weapons. On display are
two huge urns of silver, said to be the largest silver vessels in
Jaipur's most famous landmark, built in 1799, by Maharaja Sawai
Pratap Singh the Hawa Mahal or the Palace of the Winds, a fantasia
of 953 ornated windows set in a rose-colored five storey facade. The
palace has tier upon tier of curved arch surmounting fairy casements
with "jali" - lattice work screens. From here the ladies of the
court could look out at festive processions without jeopardizing
their modest seclusion.
Jantar Mantar was built in 1718, by Sawai Jai Singh. He was a
great admirer of progress and research made in the fields of science
and technology, but he was passionate about astronomy. Jantar Mantar
is a grand celebration of astronomical science and each instrument
here serves a particular function and gives an accurate reading.
Jal Mahal is an 18th century pleasure palace and is located in
Jaipur, the capital city of Rajasthan. The Jal Mahal Palace, Jaipur
is noted for its sophisticated design and grand architecture. The
Palace was developed as a pleasure spot and was used for the royal
duck shooting parties.
How to Reach Jaipur
|Air: Indian airlines operates flights between Delhi and Jaipur daily,
and most flights continue to Mumbai, Udaipur or Aurangabad. There are
several weekly flights between Jaipur and Mumbai, Ahmedabad, Kolkata and
Jaisalmer. Private airlines sometimes put on extra flights during the
Rail: Jaipur is well connected by train to main cities of India.
Indian Railway reservation office opens from Monday to Saturday. There are
several trains from Jaipur to Agra, Bombay, Udaipur, Jodhpur, Bikaner, Kota,
Chittorgarh, Alwar, Ajmer and Delhi. There is a Shatabdi Exp. between Jaipur
and Delhi and continue to Alwar and Ajmer.
Road: Rajasthan State Transport Corporation (RSTC) buses all leave
from the main bus station. Some services are deluxe .These buses should be
booked in advance. There are deluxe buses to many destinations including
Delhi, Jodhpur, Kota, Ajmer, Udaipur, Bikaner, Bharatpur, Bundi, Mt Abu,
Jaisalmer, Chittorgarh and Jhunjhunu.
